You have to admit, that's sexier. ([info]stephen_fry) wrote,

The awkward moment when a game's plot overrides the characterisation of your favourite character from the original source material to the point where you want to leave....but can't because it's a stupid reason to leave a game.

I don't think that's a stupid reason!

But I've been in the game so long...it feels petty, you know?

Can you drop the character, or is that the only one you have? I would just be afraid it would ruin your enjoyment of playing that character!

I was about to 'Ward' something to you. But then I realised that it doesn't actually work that way.

It's not my character. Someone else is playing my favourite character from the book in question and doing it so nonsensically that I...am having a difficult time.

lmao. WELL YOU CAN PM, USE CUSTOM FILTERS, OR E-MAIL... SO WE CAN PRETEND IT DOES?

Ah! AWKWARD, but that makes a bit more sense. Yes, that is hard, and unfortunately I don't know that there really is anything you can do. I have run into that! My not my favourite but a character that just makes me CRINGE... so idk, I guess ignore? Which is still hard, but yeah...

Maybe you could talk to them and ask why? They might have their own ~headcanon to explain and that might help?

Because it's 'game plot' they keep taking a stance of 'everything will be revealed later'....but I've recently come to learn that 'everything will be revealed' really means 'I haven't a clue/haven't thought of it yet/have no plan'...

...And like, if Remus Lupin started dressing in drag and dating Bellatrix Lestrange, (extreme, unrelated example) there is just no amount of headcanon that would make that okay.

Eek, yes. That would be frustrating. Have you been dealing with it for a while or is it relatively new? I ONLY ASK, because if it's been a while maybe you should consider leaving and picking up somewhere new... but if it's new, maybe that player is just trying something out and if they realize it doesn't work, they'll rethink it!

Perhaps not, but it would be hilarious.

Hey, I've left games because the characterization of my favorite was horrible and it had nothing to do with plot purposes! I'm a horrible example, though, you shouldn't listen to me.

lol. Generally, in those cases I just passive aggressively tell whomever it is playing their character so poorly to leave me alone...But this I can't ignore because there is no logic behind it.

And I need logic like I need cigarettes and caffeine.

...

...

Bad example.
